Frédéric Avella is the descendent of four generations of master stonemasons, from whom he learned to cut, shape, and polish stone and marble works. As a young child, he enrolled in drawing classes, and at 21 was chosen to renovate a number of sculptures and landmarks on the French Riviera.
Avella works with numerous art-creation methods and materials, and focuses on themes of cartoons, comics, and animals, subverting how images are typically represented in popular culture.
